Dragon Martial Arts Academy - Creston

History of

Dragon Martial Arts Academy - Creston

In 1973, Master Kwon, Tae Sung opened Kwon's Tae Kwon-Do in Port Alberni, BC.  In 1974, Mr. Warren Le‚Äče began training at Kwon's Tae Kwon-Do; and became one of the fastest advancing students.  In 1980, Mr. Lee took over instruction of the Port Alberni school and has continued the traditions that were passed down to him.

Mr. Derek Hall began training at Kwon's Tae Kwon-Do under Mr. Lee's instruction in 1997. Mr. Hall quickly became intricately involved with the school, and began assisting with children's classes in 1999.

In the year 2000 (the year of the Dragon), Mr. Lee formed Dragon Martial Arts Academy in Port Alberni.  The school has continued to teach the same Traditional Tae Kwon-Do; while at the same time broadening the curriculum to include cross training in other martial arts disciplines (such as Aikido and Gracie style Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu).  In 2002, Mr. Hall became the first Dragon Martial Arts Academy student of Mr. Lee to be promoted to the rank of Black Belt.

Mr. Hall continued as Mr. Lee's assistant instructor until a move out of Port Alberni for work in 2007.

In 2019, after a move to Creston, BC; Mr. Hall began offering private instruction in Tae Kwon-Do to several interested students in Creston.  On January 7, 2020, Dragon Martial Arts Academy - Creston finally welcomed students for group classes.
